AI, sustainability, and open source solutions – the future of the logistics industry is promising to be filled with innovations, from making existing processes and procedures more efficient to creating entirely new inventions. A deeper understanding of these topics is key to excel in the upcoming years. Therefore, the Digital Hub Logistics Dortmund set up a new training format for young professionals, future leaders, career changers, talents, and logistics and supply chain management experts. The aim – to equip future leaders with the knowledge and insights needed to navigate the logistics landscape of tomorrow. Empowering them to leverage these tools for the benefit of their organisations.

Today, open source software and open standards are central to green and sustainable logistics. With this in mind, the Open Logistics Foundation and Smart Freight Centre have decided to join forces: As part of a network partnership, which has now been sealed with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, the two organisations also want to advance zero-emissions logistics in the future jointly. To this end, the sustainability expertise of Smart Freight Centre and the digitalisation expertise of the Open Logistics Foundation are to join forces. The new partnership sends a strong signal to the industry and the market in favour of open source software and open standards. This once again underlines the need for companies to work together.

Up to 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions are caused by freight transport and logistics. According to the International Transport Forum, demand for both sectors will triple by 2050. Logistics companies are, therefore, putting a lot of effort into sustainability and stricter legal requirements. In order to offer a cross-company solution for the industry, the Open Logistics Foundation has founded the Enabling Logistics Decarbonisation Working Group under the lead of LKW WALTER. The first project deals with an open source standard for exchanging emissions data.
