The Open Logistics Foundation and VIL – Flanders Innovation Cluster for Logistics have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration around open innovation and digital transformation in logistics. The agreement was officially signed on 28 May in Antwerp and marks another important step in expanding the Foundation’s international network.

VIL is a non-profit organisation founded by and for businesses, with the ambition of supporting entrepreneurs innovate and grow. They offer a network of more than 700 members – including logistics service providers, manufacturers, retailers, suppliers, ports, startups, cities, research institutions, and technology providers.

Its activities focus on key industry topics such as digital transformation, green supply chains, hinterland connectivity, and last-mile logistics. By bringing together stakeholders from across the logistics ecosystem, VIL helps companies collaborate on practical innovation projects and strengthen the competitiveness of the Flemish logistics sector.

For the Open Logistics Foundation, the partnership strengthens exchange between different logistics ecosystems in Europe and brings additional operational perspectives into the collaborative development of open source solutions. For VIL, the collaboration opens a gateway to increase the valorisation potential of solutions developed across various innovation projects, as well as an opportunity to connect its members.

Belgium is one of Europe’s most connected logistics markets, with strong international transport flows and highly integrated supply chain networks. Through cooperation with VIL and the Foundation’s existing network partner Logistics in Wallonia, the Open Logistics Foundation is further expanding collaboration across regional logistics communities in Belgium.

The collaboration with VIL also reflects the broader role of network partners within the Open Logistics Foundation ecosystem. Strong regional partners contribute practical experience, new perspectives, and direct connections into local logistics networks. These partnerships help open source solutions move beyond organisational and national boundaries, enabling broader adoption of interoperable standards and collaborative digital solutions across Europe.
