Electronic Transport Documents

Shipping documents are often inconsistent, fragmented, and difficult to automate. The Working Group Electronic Transport Documents (ETD) is developing open source solutions for standardised and digitalised handling for all transport modes.

Common challenges

Shipping documents are required for the identification and handling of cargo on its way from sender to receiver. Even today, in the era of digitalisation, these documents are mostly paper-based. There have been attempts in recent years to make these types of documents available in different electronic formats; however, these formats are not compatible. As a result, the situation is still characterised by cross-channel discontinuity, transcription errors, and tedious manual rework.

Regular meeting

Our regular meeting takes place online every Friday from 11:00 to 12:00.

Our meeting with a legal focus takes place online on the first Friday of every month from 11:00 to 12:00.

We aim to create a standard for electronic transport documents. The absence of proprietary interfaces removes the entry barrier for all participants along the supply chain.
