The Open Logistics Foundation has officially published its Tracking Event Model, a standardised framework for sharing road transport events with customers. Developed collaboratively by 24 member companies, the model is now available on GitLab and ready for operational implementation.
The project, led by Marius Hilb (IoT Product Owner, DB Schenker) and Nathalie Böhning (Innovation and Project Manager, Open Logistics Foundation), addresses a long-standing challenge in logistics: the fragmented landscape of track and trace systems. Historically, each logistics provider has relied on proprietary solutions with differing terms, formats, and event definitions, leading to misunderstandings from limited transparency and accuracy.

Learn more about the Working Group Track & Trace and its project, Tracking Event Model.
The Tracking Event Model introduces ten unified event designations that provide a common language for all players managing transport events. This shared standard allows companies to communicate more accurately, improves planning certainty, enhances transparency, and supports better operational reporting.
Members collaborating on the model are as follows: Aventeon, BusinessCode, CargoLedger, Contargo, Dachser, DB Schenker, DSLV, Duisport, Fraunhofer IML, Haeger & Schmidt Logistics, iteratec, Levity, Logistics.Cloud, Markant, Maven, Rhenus Logistics, Sitra, TradeLink, Trans.EU, Transfollow, Translogica, Transporeon, Zekju, Zufall
The Open Logistics Foundation’s Working Group Track & Trace, initially focused on standardising and publishing these event definitions, will now turn its attention to Time Slot Management. This next initiative aims to create a baseline model for scheduling and utilising time slots in logistics, addressing issues such as system incompatibility, low adoption rates, operational inefficiencies, and miscommunications. The project will be led by Gerry Daalhuisen (Senior Director Dock & Yard / Fleet Products, Transporeon) and Nathalie Böhning.
With the Tracking Event Model now published, the Foundation expects active engagement from member companies as they implement the standard operationally, continuing the mission to solve logistics challenges through open source collaboration and shared digital standards.
